the results...

of picking apples? Homemade applesauce and apple butter! mmmm....

While I have been busy slicing apples, Jared starting working on my greatest yard sale purchase yet. A dresser. I paid a penny for it. Yes, that's right, a penny. This is what happens when you go on the last day of the sale, it is drizzling, and they are desperate to get everything sold. Everything was a penny. My total bill totaled a nickel. I way overpaid with a quarter. :)

It was in really sad shape though. I couldn't open any of the drawers because it had been sitting in a damp basement and was sealed shut. The lady who owned it apparently tried to strip it already and ruined the finish on the top. But the grain was beautiful and it was sturdy, so Jared took it on. We figured that it would have to sit in the garage over the winter to dry out, but after a couple of weeks, Jared was able to get the drawers open. He has got the stain stripped and has been sanding it the last couple of days (nothing like a project to get a new tool out of the deal!) and it looks better already. We will never be able to stain it a nice light color, but with a coffee color stain and satin finish, it should turn out really nice. Pictures will be posted as the process is continued...

And here lies our cat...not the most flattering pose...right before Jared let a moth in and she went berserk trying to catch it. :)
